EDN 382 - Literacy Development in the Early Years |
Designed to inform students of the theory and research that has influenced the development of principles and strategies for promoting emergent literacy. Developmentally appropriate literacy activities will be explored along with ways to use individualized assessment to gauge children's current abilities and to use and build upon what children bring to oral language, reading, and writing. The roles of supportive adults, print-rich environments and principles of multicultural learning will be investigated. Field experiences required.
