EGN 402 - Dredging and Beach Nourishment
This course will examine types of dredges and their operation and the process of dredging for beach nourishment. Students will learn about the elements of beach nourishment design including cross-shore and planform design considerations, borrow areas (upland, offshore and inlets), environmental effects of beach nourishment and current dredging/beach nourishment costs. Numerical modeling of beach and dune erosion, shoreline change and storm induced impacts will be introduced. Local examples and ongoing beach nourishment projects will be examined.
