All students are expected to attend and participate in person at the assigned day/time. (F2F)

Pre- or co-requisite: FST 205

This course will examine the history of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and other non-heterosexual and non-cisgender identities in American moving-image media from the birth of cinema to the present. How do we define ""queer cinema,” and how has it changed over time?

Focusing on a variety of genres and modes, we will examine the work of key LGBT+ filmmakers, their representation of often-marginalized gender identities and sexual identities, and the resulting response from queer spectators.
